The James Hilton Society was founded in 2000 and aims to promote interest in Hilton’s life and work. It publishes a journal biennially and issues a Newsletter three times each year.

The society organises conferences twice a year when Hilton’s novels and films are discussed in a congenial atmosphere. The Spring meeting is normally held in May, often in Walthamstow, Hilton’s home town, or in Leigh, where Hilton was born. The society’s annual meeting is usually held at The Leys School in Cambridge, where James was a pupil and which provided much of the inspiration for Goodbye Mr Chips.
